Biohybrid DNA:metal quantum cluster based sensor platform technology (BioQuant)

Novel sensor concepts such as lab-on-a-chip (LOC) technologies enable the detection and quantification of analytes even in laboratories with simple basic equipment and few trained personnel. Today, these technologies are important and powerful diagnostic tools in healthcare and are increasingly used in industrial settings of the bioeconomy. However, current LOC technology is not an all-in-one solution as it does not allow detection of multiple analytes and has limitations in terms of cost, sensitivity, ease of use and durability. The BioQuant project aims to overcome the existing limitations of current biosensors by combining a novel class of biological nanomaterials – DNA-stabilized metal quantum clusters (QC:DNA) – with microfluidics to develop the next generation of LOC-based technologies for industrial applications.
